In order to provide consistency from middle school to high school in the area of appropriate school clothes, MGMS closely aligns with Palisade High Schools dress code. "Recognizing that fashion provides choices for many settings, there are certain articles which work well at the mall, the beach, a social gathering, etc., but are not appropriate for an educational setting (which includes all school sponsored activities)”. Thus, the school dress code is developed to ensure that undergarments are not visable and distracations within the learning environment is at a minimal. The following are unacceptable:
If your child is not in compliance with the dress code, you will be notified and asked to bring a change of clothes, or your child will be loaned a change of clothes provided by MGMS.
HOMEWORK REQUESTS: Should your student be absent three consecutive days, we will collect homework upon request. Homework requests will automatically be generated for students suspended two or more days. If you request homework or if your student is suspended two or more days, please pick up the homework.
What's New Regarding Keeping Our Students Safe? Many of you have noticed that the front doors to MGMS are locked during the school day, while students are in the cafeteria for lunch from 11:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. This is a proactive move that was recommended by MCVSD 51 Safety Coordinator Tim Leon. The safety of our students and staff is our first priority. The administration at MGMS looked at ways that the safety could be improved. One way was to have the best security for our students at a time when we have the greatest concentration of children in one area. We discovered that this was during lunch time while they are in the cafeteria as opposed to the classroom setting. The doors are locked so that an intruder may be dissuaded from entering the building and an administrator or staff member “greets” and opens the door for our guests. Student’s should not open the doors. This DOES NOT mean that students are unsafe, or parents and guardians are not allowed into MGMS. You are always welcome to join in your student’s education. Thank you for your cooperation. Choking Game is no joke! Students are playing this game and the consequences can be deadly. Please click here to learn more! ATTENDANCE: Participation in class activities, presentations, clarification and explanations are all essential parts of the educational process. Please call the school at 254-4750 if your student will not be in attendance. It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the school. Absences will be recorded as unexcused if the school does not receive a call or a note from the parent explaining the reason for the absence(s). Absences will be excused for the following: illness, injury, or medical purposes; death in the family; extended physical, mental or emotional disability; custody by court or law enforcement authorities; required court appearance, or with advanced notification and administrative approval, per MCVSD 51 Board Policy (JH-R). The school may require suitable proof regarding absences including written statements from medical sources.
STUDENT DISMISSAL: A student may only be picked up by a parent unless it is a situation in which the school has contacted the parent and the parent has made arrangements for another person to pick up their student. Students may not be picked up by anyone other than a parent for the purpose of attending sporting activities, lunch parades or any other non-emergency or non-school event. Parents may not pick up any students other than their own unless the school has received written notification from the other student’s parent GIFTS AND DELIVERIES: Any gifts or items, i.e.: candy, balloons, flowers. etc., will not be delivered to the students until the end of the day. Items too large to transport on the bus (i.e.: large balloons) will have to be picked up by a parent. PHONE CALLS AND CALLER ID: Students will not be allowed to use the office phone unless it is an emergency. Please be sure and plan ahead if your student will need alternative transportation after school or other non-emergency needs. If you receive a call from Mt. Garfield on you Caller ID and no message is left, please understand that we will not be able to track the call. There are over thirty phones in our building, and we have no way of knowing from which phone the call was made from or who made the call. Student cell phones must be placed in the student’s lockers during school hours. Mt. Garfield is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen cell phones.
